Hot Dogs and Ballerinas

Wednesday was Hot Dog day, so we celebrated with dollar dogs from Sonic.  Silly me for thinking my children would just eat one - although it seemed reasonable since neither one of them finished their corn dog the other day.  But no, Dalton ate his, and then 1/2 of mine, then demanded another - I had to hit the freezer.  Of course, then Darby wanted another, and then him again.  I finally just had to cut them off.

Afterwards it was time to ballerina dance and then gallop.  Just occurred to me now that that could have ended up very messy, but it didn't.

Finally, we gathered on the bed to watch an episode of Olivia.  Or rather Darby did.  Dalton just threw himself around the bed with a fake flower and I tried to keep him from killing himself.

Cuties in Bed

The up side of Dalton waking up screaming at 4:30am is that when Nana woke him up to get him dressed he was in my bed and psyched to roll around with Stella.  Cute boy. Stella may or may not have been amused.  Tough call.

The smiles and laughter below were achieved through the use of funny words. The favorite was of course "spaghetti", followed closely by "banana poopie".  It's surprisingly tough to find funny sounding words that they also understand.  It loses the effect if they don't know what it is. While spaghetti is hilarious, ravioli was nowhere near as funny, and zucchini elicited no response at all.

On the way to school Tuesday morning we saw a Jeep.
D:  How come that guy has a Jeep?
J:  Because he bought it with his money, just like Mommy bought her car with her money.
D:  Oh.
J:  Should Mommy have bought a Jeep with her money?
D:  Yeah.  But we can turn your car into a Jeep.
J:  Oh really? How are we going to do that?
D:  You take the puzzle pieces and put them together.  I will help.
J:  What will you do?
D:  Work really hard.  When the whole family is back together we will do it. You can leave the basket in though.

This evening's performance was an updated performance of the infamous "King Dance".  This was the Breakdance version (see video below).  Dalton has clearly embraced his role as her hype man.

Blog cantando

Just a short post - mostly to show this kinda cute video that will be super embarassing when Darby is on American Idol - Season 67

Nothing too ground breaking tonight.  Chik-fil-a, Despicable Me, Hungry Hungry Hippo, poop, crying, sleep.  That's the way we roll.

Darby and Dalton's Adequate Adventures

Sunday was full of adventures. First, we sailed the 7 Seas.

Then we did a little bit of very important research.

Then we braved the world of retail.  We looked at very "pretttttyyyy" tile and had to fully investigate - for a very long time in the heat - all the water features for sale at the Lowe's.  We were particularly fond of the one with Gnomes pouring buckets of water (who buys this stuff??).  We were looking for a housewarming gift for the Bridges' new house.  I told Darby she could pick it out.  I was quite proud of the job she did.  I tried to talk her into several nice options, but she held firm, and when we saw the Money Tree, in a nice little pink pot she shouted "That one!" I agree it was a nice choice.

As payment for a peaceful trip to Lowe's I had promised new balloons, so next we were off to Party City.  Not all that surprisingly they were both dead set on a purple one.  We managed to find one plain and one with stars.  It's important to establish ownership.

As it was lunchtime, and Darby expressed a desire for hot dogs, we decided to venture to Sonic.  I was thinking we were going to take it home, but I got outvoted, so we hit the patio.  Luckily it was not as hot as I was afraid it would be, so it was a bearable venue.  Corn dogs and tots were on the menu.  It worked out pretty well.  Mommy tried the peanut butter oreo shake, which was quite good.  I felt bad because they sent some poor schlub out in a hot dog costume for the kids, but my children just looked at her like WTF and wouldn't have anything to do with her.  No hi-five, no wave, no "hi", no hug, no picture. No nothing but clinging to Mommy.  Clearly we're not ready for Disney (not that I have any inclination for that right now anyway).

Throughout the weekend, Dalton requested "Bailey House" about 600 times.  We eventually got there after nap, and had a really nice time as usual.

The other theme of the weekend was Despicable Me, Darby's new movie. Luckily (knock wood) she's yet to pick an annoying movie or TV show to watch.  My only complaint is that I have seen the beginning of these movies a thousand time and the end, like, once.  We always have to start at the beginning. It reminds me of the Sound of Music when I was growing up.  It was a family joke that I watched the beginning every year and never saw the end because it went on past my bedtime.  I never saw the end until I was a teenager and saw it in a revival theater.

Not Watching the Airhogs

Lucky for us, the Bridges got free tickets to see the Grand Prairie AirHogs baseball game.

We won't even talk about what a train wreck Mommy was getting us there.  Suffice it to say, she was 1/2 hour late, almost forgot Mimi at daycare, went the wrong way and almost ran out of gas.  I think the highlight of the trip for Darby was Mommy going the wrong way - she was still talking about it as we were leaving the game.

The highlight for Dalton was seeing his Bailey-Boo.  It was all he talked about the whole way there and all he has talked about today is going to her house.  I believe love is in the air.

When we finally got there we realized it was "Dog Night", so there were lots of dogs to park all over the ballpark.  I believe we got to about 90% of them.

The seats were good - right above first base - right near where Scout the AirHog was dancing.  So we spent a good amount of time talking about him, wanting to give him a hi-five, and then being to afraid to actually do it.

After some running and dancing and general rowdiness, we went and got dinner.  Hot dogs, french fries, and of course, ketchup.  After dinner we ventured over to the playground.  A staple of any good ballpark.  We returned to our seats in time for the 7th inning stretch and sing.  Then it was time to pet some more dogs and go back to the playground.

Eventually we decided to leave. On the way out, Jordan accidentally tripped Darby.  To calm her down she wanted to sit on Mommy's lap.  In a red seat (aka bleacher). So we all sat down.  And then, of course, they decided to watch the game.  Impeccable timing - the top of the 9th - the end of the game.  But good times were had by all.  And I believe we have determined they're not quite ready for the Rangers game.

Fun pics from Wednesday

Nothing groundbreaking here.  Just some cute pics of Dalton in his pirate bathing suit. Stella had to get in on the action too.

And Darby decided to take a few hundred selfies.
